A photo released on Nov. 2, 2026, features NGC 4449, a dwarf irregular galaxy. The galaxy was among 37 nearby dwarf galaxies studied by researchers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.
Dwarf galaxies are small systems containing anywhere from a few thousand to hundreds of millions of stars. In the galaxies examined, researchers found that much of the oxygen they expected to see was missing.
