NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured a detailed mid-infrared view of the Cat’s Head Nebula, revealing intricate structures within the feline-shaped formation. The image was released on October 29, 2026.

The nebula’s characteristic shape was likely sculpted over time by intense ultraviolet radiation and winds from massive stars in the Carina Nebula. This stellar feedback gradually erodes the surrounding gas and dust.

Denser material inside the pillar has resisted that erosion, at least for now, helping preserve the structure that gives the nebula its distinctive appearance.
