A new global map of Mars has been released, pinpointing 13 specific locations that share the mineralogy and chemical composition of Teghaza 001. This meteorite is recognized as one of the most ancient Martian rocks ever found on Earth. Although scientists cannot definitively confirm the exact origin point of any Martian meteorite, Teghaza 001 contains distinct clues linking it to the highlands in the southern hemisphere of the Red Planet.

The base map for this visualization was generated using data from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter instrument aboard NASA's Mars Global Surveyor mission. To identify the specific areas marked with white circles, researchers utilized data from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to find regions matching the unique characteristics of Teghaza 001.
